What can I say about August? The month holds a special charm for me because it’s the end of summer and so I make a point to enjoy the heat. It somehow links me to my inner kid. The one who just wants to lay on the grass, eyes closed and take in as much summer in as possible. It connects me to my childhood, in a good way.

Connect. I like that word. We connect you to Karen Shenaz David in our cover Story, where she fabulously steals our heart with an honest interview. DYM is proud to have her on our cover; she is a shining role model for many. And I recommend you f lip to our Bollywood section for Snoop Dogg/RDB/Akshay Kumar Exclusive.

My favorite non-religious-non-personal event is friendship day (Aug 3rd) which I personally celebrate quite religiously. This year I plan to connect with a very old friend whom I parted due to issues that sound silly today. I wish I had sound advice then from Desi Roots columnist Prabhjot who talks about ‘Friendship ke Side Effects’. Our Yoga guru, Kiran, puts some light on beginner’s poses for anybody who wants to re-connect with their mind, body and soul. An article on Dyslexia connects you to that struggling clan of our community. Those of you thinking of a career in social work, check out our career pages. Things to do this summerAugust is brimming with many Desi events for young desis that we are very proud of like Rang Barse - the color festival (Aug 16), FILMI - South Asian Film Festival (Aug 13 – 17), Battle of Bands (Aug 30).
